FabconnectHer TESTING PHASE

We have begun the testing phase of the Open Educational Resources (OERs). In this project, this phase plays a crucial role in preparing educators and students for the effective integration of girls and women into STEAM fields. At VivaLab, we are developing OERs in the “The World of STEAM” track, focusing on youth aged 8 to 15 and the teachers who work with these age groups.

This testing period aims to refine the practical use of OERs, assessing their effectiveness in promoting skills like creativity, innovation, and career orientation, especially in technology and science. Essentially, we are testing prototypes—a common practice in the fablab environment for any project.

During this phase, students with varying skill levels are exposed to practical learning paths designed around the Bèta&TechMentality Model. This model identifies different interest profiles among young people, such as "Creative Makers," "Explorers," and "Achievers," each with unique needs and motivations for engaging with technology. The testing allows us to verify if the planned activities effectively encourage these students to build confidence and interest in STEAM subjects, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.

In addition to testing the direct impact on students, participating teachers are evaluating the usability and effectiveness of the educational materials, identifying areas for adjustments and improvements. This phase also provides essential feedback to ensure that the OERs are flexible and adaptable to different educational contexts, whether in-person or hybrid.

The active collaboration between students and educators in this process is fundamental to creating resources that are not only educational but also engaging, helping to reduce the gender gap in STEAM fields and preparing a new generation of innovators.
