The VIVA Lab Porto had the honor of being challenged by Lipor to develop the "Prémio Coração Verde", a distinction granted to institutions that stand out for their exemplary sustainability practices and positive environmental impact.
To reflect the importance of the circular economy, we created a concept that combines repurposed wood—sourced from waste in the carpentry industry—with recycled plastic. In this project, we aimed to demonstrate that both natural materials and plastics have value, as long as they are used responsibly and creatively. As designers, we believe it is our role to rethink how we design for the future, ensuring that the pieces we create have a long lifespan and are truly sustainable.
During the production process, we used Precious Plastic machines to shred and mold the plastic, achieving the vibrant colors that bring the iconic heart to life. At the same time, the wood was laser-engraved, allowing each piece to be personalized and giving it a unique and lasting character. The final result showcases how plastic can embrace a natural material to create something beautiful and meaningful, fostering a new perspective on material combinations.
These awards symbolize Lipor’s commitment to sustainability and the recognition of exemplary environmental practices. More than just an accolade, they represent innovation and responsibility in building a more sustainable future.
