On June 3, 2024, we celebrated Children's Day with the Porto Music Conservatory, visiting the primary school classes with the activity “I Sanded the T-Shirt.” To celebrate and make the day more fun, we asked each student to bring a white t-shirt. In three different classes, they drew shapes like hearts, seagulls, clouds, and many other things on sandpaper, letting their imagination run free. They colored these shapes with crayons, placed the sandpaper correctly on the t-shirts, and, with the help of an iron, transferred the designs onto the fabric.
In another class, using crayons as well, they shaved the crayons into a small pot and then sprinkled them onto the t-shirts as they liked. The process of transferring the design to the t-shirt was exactly the same as before.
In common across all classes, each t-shirt was stamped with a symbol celebrating Children's Day. The results were beautiful, as shown in the photos, and it was a day full of fun and learning.
