The occasion was graced by the presence of the Deputy Mayor, Filipe Araújo, whose support for the initiative underlines the growing importance of biology and Maker science in the local community.
The exhibition took place at the CRU Creative Hub and featured a variety of works that
explore the intersection between art and biotechnology, demonstrating how science can be used as an artistic medium to express be used as an artistic medium to express complex ideas and provoke reflection on the future. Among the pieces presented were a puppet made from
Bioplastico by artist Gabriela Castro, and the embroidered natural leaves that challenged the limits of creativity.
Vice-President Filipe Araújo's opening speech was inspiring, highlighting the relevance of initiatives like this for democratising science and stimulating innovation in the urban context. He emphasised the importance of spaces like VIVA Lab in the city's innovation fabric. Visitors had the opportunity to interact with the artists and scientists responsible for the works. The opening day of the BioArte exhibition was undoubtedly a resounding success, marking the beginning of many more initiatives that promise to integrate biology and art in an innovative and inclusive way, strengthening the community and promoting a more sustainable and creative future.
It was a day-long exhibition with numerous visitors including the teachers of the various workshops, the students involved, artists and project partners. It was a magnificent afternoon where we were able to learn more together and share several interesting moments linked to the BioMaker Lab.
